Surprise Bags · India

Cooked today.
Half the price.
Saved before it’s wasted.

Indian kitchens cook more than they sell. What’s left at closing is good food. The same food, from the same kitchen, that someone paid full price for an hour earlier. Morsel lets you take it home for half.

How it works

Three steps.
One rescued meal.

No menu to scroll, no delivery fee stacking up. Just what a kitchen has left at closing, priced fairly, ready when you are.

Step 1

See what's near you

Kitchens post what they cooked today and didn’t sell, as a Surprise Bag, at half what it normally costs. Tagged veg or non-veg.

Step 2

Reserve it

Veg or non-veg is the only choice you make. What’s inside stays a surprise, and that is what lets a kitchen sell whatever it genuinely has left.

Step 3

Walk in, walk out

Collect it yourself, inside the pickup window. No delivery, which is exactly why it can cost half.

Let's be direct

It isn't leftovers. It's food that didn't get sold.

There is a difference, and it is the whole business. One is scraped off a plate. The other never left the kitchen.

Is it old food?
No. It was cooked today, for today. It is the same food someone paid full price for two hours ago. The kitchen simply made more than it sold.
Is it safe?
It never left the kitchen. Nothing plated, nothing off a buffet, nothing that went out to a table and came back. Every bag is sealed and labelled with the time it was packed, so you can see for yourself how fresh it is.
Why a surprise bag
Because a kitchen can't know at 4pm what it will have left at 9pm. Not choosing is what makes the discount possible, and it is why the bag is a surprise rather than a menu.
What do I actually get?
Worth 2× the price, from a restaurant you know. Choose Veg or Non-Veg. Always packed separately. The rest is the chef’s surprise 😊
The arithmetic

Every bag is a bag that didn’t reach a landfill.

A kitchen has already paid for the ingredients, the gas, the hours and the wages. Here is what one Surprise Bag does instead, for your plate, the kitchen’s till, and the air.

  • 410g

Good food rescued in an average bag, instead of going into a bin at closing time.

  • 730g

CO₂e kept out of the atmosphere per bag, shown to you at the moment you reserve one.

  • 50%

Of face value the kitchen recovers, on food it had already written off to nothing.

Estimates, based on average plate weight and standard food waste emission factors. We will publish our own running total once we have rescued enough bags to measure one.

Where we open

We are starting in two neighbourhoods.

A Surprise Bag you have to drive forty minutes for is not a bargain. So we are starting somewhere small enough that a kitchen near you is genuinely near you.

Opening first

Koramangala

One of the densest restaurant neighbourhoods in the country, and the city’s biggest evening footfall. If it works anywhere, it works here first.

Opening first

HSR Layout

Two kilometres away, and a strip of cafés and restaurants along 27th Main, with a young crowd who live on their phones. Close enough to run both from one route.

Somewhere else in India?

Tell us where you are. The neighbourhoods with the most people waiting are the ones we open next. That is genuinely how we decide.

Questions

Worth knowing first.

Do I get to choose what is in the bag?

Veg or non-veg. That is the one choice, and it is what makes everything else work. A kitchen cannot know at 4pm what it will have left at closing, so the surprise is exactly what lets it offer you half price.

Is it delivered?

No. You collect it yourself, inside the pickup window shown when you reserve. Delivery would eat most of the discount, and the discount is the whole point. A short walk is what keeps the price at half.

What if the kitchen sells out?

The popular ones do go quickly. Bags are only ever what a kitchen genuinely has left, so it is worth reserving early. We never ask a kitchen to cook extra just to fill bags; that would defeat the whole idea.

Is Morsel live yet?

Not yet. We are signing up kitchens in Koramangala and HSR Layout now. Join the waitlist and we will write to you the day one near you lists its first bag, and not before.

I run a kitchen. How do I join?

Let us know about your kitchen, and we’ll get in touch 😊

Koramangala and HSR Layout

Good food at half the price. Enjoy while making a positive impact.
